Goals of the ArtGeneration initiative in the 21st century

The goals of the ArtGeneration initiative include creating places for self-determined and creative living, promoting cooperative initiatives, developing inclusive mobility solutions, strengthening the ecological regional economy, emphasising health issues and cultural engagement. The initiative is also committed to supporting exemplary and sustainable regions in the areas of soft tourism, intergenerational teaching, learning, working and living in the Art of living places of the European Union.

ArtGeneration: Reminiscence of the beatnik generation

The reminiscence of the beatnik generation honours the rebellious, non-conformist spirit of the movement that flourished from the 1950s to the 1960s. This generation of writers, musicians and artists sought freedom beyond social conventions, celebrated individualism and explored new, authentic ways of life. Often seen as a response to the cultural norms of the post-war period, the beatniks embodied a rejection of the mainstream and a return to the essence of the human condition with their love of jazz and folk, spontaneous writing, spiritual quest and thirst for adventure.

The beatnik generation of the 50s and 60s - a movement that looked at life from a new perspective and encouraged society to reflect on conventions, values and the meaning of existence. Driven by the desire for freedom and authenticity, the beatniks roamed the streets of San Francisco and New York with an intense passion, freeing themselves from social norms and discovering new forms of expression in literature, music and spirituality. Their striving for an unbound life, the exploration of the self and the revolt against superficiality inspired generations and still characterises the understanding of individuality and artistic freedom today.
