PROJECTS CENTRAL SPAIN

ArtGeneration projects Heartland Spain: The Extremadura -
A paradise for nature, culture and innovation
Extremadura, the ArtGeneration ‘heartland’ of Spain, is strategically located between major metropolises: around 230 km from Lisbon, 270 km from Madrid and 300 km from the Mediterranean. The region is easily accessible thanks to the airports in Cáceres and Badajoz, a well-developed rail network and modern motorways.

Diverse landscapes and natural wealth
(film location e.g. for ‘Game of Thrones’, artistic work e.g. by Wolf Vostell, Happening and Fluxus artists)
The region impresses with its scenic diversity:
Northern mountains: The Torreón rises 2,400 metres in the north, surrounded by untouched mountain landscapes.
Central region: The characteristic dehesas - extensive pastures with holm oaks - turn into a sea of wildflowers in spring.
Southern flatlands: Fertile plains used for growing tomatoes, rice, tobacco, peppers, grapes and cereals.
With two important rivers, the Tagus and the Guadiana, Extremadura offers exceptional water resources. The La Serena reservoir, the second largest in Europe, creates an impressive coastal landscape with over 2,000 kilometres of freshwater beaches. In addition to water sports, natural pools and waterfalls invite you to swim.
Extremadura
A paradise for flora and fauna
The region is home to an extraordinary variety of plants and animals:
Flora: fragrant lavender, colourful irises, orchids, peonies and rock roses impress plant lovers. In spring, the dehesas offer a spectacular display of white, yellow and purple colours.
Culinary wild plants: Wild asparagus, white truffles, sweet madroños and aromatic herbs such as mint are appreciated by locals and connoisseurs alike.
Fauna: Extremadura is a paradise for bird lovers. 30% of the area is protected, with habitats for 300 bird species, including rare species such as griffon vultures and black storks.

Infrastructure for nature lovers
Despite being sparsely populated, the roads are well developed and not very busy. A network of hiking trails, created from the historic Vías Pecuarias (cattle tracks), allows almost unhindered access to the natural wonders.
Extremadura
The vision: ArtGeneration projects Heartland Spain
The ‘Heartland Spain’ projects combine the natural beauty of Extremadura with forward-looking concepts for sustainable development.

The planned initiatives are diverse:
Reactivation of historic villages and townhouses Historic buildings are being renovated for energy efficiency, villages are being revitalised and transformed into modern living and working spaces. Highly efficient materials and design developments will be utilised.
Ecological new builds: Themed villages such as the ‘Beatnik Villages’ combine modern design with sustainable concepts.
Technology and innovation: The use of state-of-the-art IT solutions (Apple technologies), sensor technology (e.g. forest fire protection) and intelligent water management systems form the basis for environmentally friendly and efficient living. Convenient communication technology, smart living and telemedicine
Sustainable agriculture: Projects in solar agriculture and innovative approaches to food production promote self-sufficiency and strengthen the regional economy.
Extremadura
Lighthouses of culture and education
Planned educational centres and theme parks are to set international standards. In co-operation with institutions such as UNESCO:
Cultural centres: art retreats, film locations, theatres and literature centres.
Education and health platforms: Theme parks and research centres that focus on sustainability, health and smart technologies. E.g. pop culture therapies linked to the historical Celtic past of Extremadura.
Creative networks: initiatives in fashion, design, crafts and music create new opportunities for creatives and entrepreneurs.

Extremadura is not only a region of outstanding natural beauty, but also a centre for innovation and sustainability. The ArtGeneration projects ‘Heartland Spain’ combine these elements to create a sustainable, future-proof way of life in harmony with nature.
